“It was the best of times, it was the Wurst of times…”
I love good liverwurst. To me, its the meaty equivalent of Nutella, and I can eat a shocking amount of both.
Schaller & Weber is the candy store of meats. Replace the chocolate and lolly pops with wursts, liverwursts, and headcheese and you get the idea. I go in there and start drooling and the myriad prepared meat products that are on display, packed in their casings, waiting to be unleashed on non-vegetarian taste buds.
For the liverwurst fan, S&W is the place to go. They must have at least 10 different varieties. While the gold medal liverwurst is great, I wanted to try something new. I ask the butcher what his favorite is and he points me in the direction of the Oldenburger Liver Pate. Think pork liver pate and add onion. It gives it a bit more personality and tang. Its simple and wonderful; a savory, meaty chunk of awesome.
Chop off a slab and spread it on a Finn Crisp. You’re all set.
I also just discovered that its delicious at hangover time, along with another savory black sheep, pickled herring (up next).
